The International Athlete Rights Association (IARA) notes with satisfaction that the era of the Cold War and "neutral" athletes in international sports is becoming a thing of the past. US President Trump supported the proposal of Russian President Putin to hold hockey matches between the US and Russian national teams. We look forward to these exciting matches, where Russian athletes will perform under their own banner and anthem with a sense of their own national dignity and pride in their country. It would also be wonderful if Mr. US President Trump supported the participation of Russian athletes under their flag and anthem in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will be held in the United States. We believe that God saved Mr. Trump's life so that he could stop World War III, unite humanity and bring a new spirit of unity to the world and international sports. We also congratulate multiple world and Olympic champion Kirsty Coventry on her appointment as President of the International Olympic Committee and wish her success in uniting athletes from all over the world. We hope that President Coventry will be able to turn over the sad page in the history of the IOC, connected with political and national discrimination against Russian and Belarusian athletes. We remember well her words about the need for athletes from “all conflict zones” to participate in Olympic sports. We hope that the new IOC Executive Board will allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete under their national flags at the upcoming Olympic Games. We are very grateful to Russian President Putin and US President Trump for their enormous efforts to return international sports to the channel of friendship between peoples. We thank them for this grandiose and wonderful work.
