Appeal of the Members of the Standing Commission on International Cooperation of the International Union of Lawyers in Connection with the Threat of a New Third World War

17.01.2022

Recently, we have become witnesses of the events taking place in the world that threaten the world peace, the existence of Humanity and all life on our planet, given to us by God and the Universe.

After the Second World War, there has never been such a difficult and dangerous situation in international relations that we see today. The countries of the West and the East rattle their weapons in front of each other, and began to openly prepare for the outbreak of the Third World War. We are again witnessing a feverish arms race, the emergence of new types of nuclear, supersonic missile and space weapons, cyber weapons of mass destruction, military drones of all kinds. All over the world, the dangerous movement of troops, fleets, strategic aviation, their dangerous maneuvering along the state borders of opponents began.

The politicians of some countries, guided by national egoism and a sense of their own exclusiveness and superiority, began to assert that their national interests are higher than the interests of other countries, their national laws are higher than the norms of international law. They openly and cynically discuss issues related to the outbreak of World War III and the possibility of victory over their geopolitical opponents. They do not care about the fate of billions of civilians, women and children of our planet. Before our eyes, the world peaceful architecture of international relations that has developed after the Second World War is collapsing, international treaties on the limitation of strategic arms are being destroyed, information, psychological and hybrid wars are unleashing. Our beautiful and fragile planet turned out to be just one step away from the Third World War and the mechanism of self-destruction of all Humanity can turn on at any time and even by an absurd accident.

We welcome the joint statement by the leaders of China, Russia, Great Britain, the United States and France on January 3, 2022 on the prevention of nuclear war and an arms race. We hope that the assurances of politicians about the need to reduce strategic risks and conduct a constructive dialogue in order to build a world free from military conflicts and nuclear weapons will not turn out to be empty promises and will end with the signing of peace treaties.

We call on the United Nations, created to rid Humanity of wars and disasters, to wake up and remember its mission, stop being just a place for empty talk and mutual accusations of a narrow group of superpower politicians, and start acting in the interests of all peoples and the world. The UN should become a real center for coordinating the actions of all nations aimed at preventing a new world war and resolving international disputes that threaten the world. We consider it necessary to immediately convene the UN General Assembly in order, in accordance with Articles 2 and 14 of the UN Charter, to discuss joint measures to prevent the Third World War and the peaceful solution of the conflict between nations, which threatens the destruction of all Humanity.

We want to warn all politicians in the world who are preparing a new Third World War about their personal responsibility for their actions. We declare to these politicians, sit down at the negotiating table or leave the political arena as people who are incapable of protecting the interests of Humanity and the world. We warn you that if you do not abandon the policy of militarism and aggression, then you may find yourself in the dock of the new Nuremberg Tribunal for committing crimes against Humanity, war crimes and unleashing the Third World War.

We also appeal to all people in the world. Stop being just observers who indifferently watching the conflict between nations like another television show. All of you, including your families, relatives and close people, can be destroyed by nuclear, chemical and bacteriological weapons of mass destruction at the command of irresponsible politicians. We should all say to all politicians in the East and the West, "No to World War III." We need to re-create an international movement for peace, as in previous years, and unite against irresponsible politicians in order to jointly fight against hunger, poverty, social inequality, natural disasters, pandemics, and the destruction of the planet's environment and resources.

Everyone who wants peace on our planet, join us and put your signatures under this Appeal.
